Membership in the Omaha Area Youth Orchestras is open to all student musicians in the Omaha area who are selected on the basis of competitive auditions. These auditions are held each April for the following season. All students participating in OAYO must audition each year.
The bring-a-friend-to-rehearsal day is scheduled in late February or early March – at this time, the required musical excerpts for each instrument will be available. Excerpts are required to audition for the Youth Philharmonic and the Youth Symphony only.
Audition materials are available in mid-February each year at OAYO rehearsals, the office or through the website. Prospective members must submit a completed application form, along with the audition fee prior to scheduling an audition appointment. Auditions consist of the musical excerpts (YP and YS only), a brief unaccompanied solo piece of your choice, and sight-reading (rhythmic and melodic for YCS and YCO, rhythmic only for YP and YS). Scales will also be required. Applicants successfully completing an audition are offered membership in one of the four ensembles.
