Register to Audition for the 2014-2015 Season

The Omaha Area Youth Orchestras have been having a great 2013-2014 season!  Great music… Appearances at the Holland Performing Arts Center…  Retreats…  Guest Conductors…  Opportunities to attend special concerts.

The 2014-2015 season promises to be an even more exciting one for OAYO and its musicians.   As our ensembles prepare for their final performances, it is time to think about auditions for next season.

Registrations for auditions are available on-line at our web site – Audition Page.   You will not receive an email from OAYO confirming that your Registration form was submitted.  Audition times and locations will be sent to you, via email, by the end of March.

Please remember that we want OAYO to continue to be accessible to all qualified students.  Financial assistance is available to anyone who requires it, and all requests are handled confidentially.  The OAYO 2014-2015 Tuition Scholarship Application and Private Lesson Scholarship Application are also part of our on-line process and are available on the Audition Page.  Applications and the federal tax return must be completed and submitted to the office by May 1, 2014 to be considered for a scholarship.

Omaha Area Youth Orchestra's Annual Side by Side Concert

Sunday, May 4, 2014 | 7:00 PM
Holland Center | Kiewit Concert Hall

The 15th annual Side-by-Side Concert will feature the organization’s top-level orchestra, the Youth Symphony, performing alongside musicians and conductors from the Omaha Symphony Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Segall and Omaha Symphony Music Director Thomas Wilkins. Repertoire will include the Overture to “Der Freischütz” by Carl Maria von Weber; “Hoe-Down” from “Rodeo” by Aaron Copland; “Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral” by Richard Wagner; and “Romeo and Juliet” by Tchaikovsky.

In addition, the concert will feature the premiere of a new piece called “Duality” by local composer Eric Richards commissioned by OAYO and the Metropolitan Youth Jazz Orchestra (MAYJO). This piece will be performed by members of the Youth Symphony and MAYJO.

A note of special pride for OAYO is the occasion to celebrate Aviva Segall’s 15th season as the Music Director and chief architect of our growing and thriving orchestral programs.  Displays and activities in the lobby prior to the concert will feature OAYO’s history, a visual tribute to Ms. Segall and a historical view of OAYO since its creation by the members of the Symphony Guild and Omaha Public Schools in 1958.

This concert is made possible through generous support from the Pacific Life Foundation.
